How to Change Slack's Annoying Notification Sound

Slack’s default notification sound is way too loud. And when you’re in the middle of an important conversation, the last thing you want to hear every time someone responds to your message is an ear-piercing, high-pitched beep that reminds you of dial-up modems and screeching AOL discs. To change Slack’s annoying notification sound, all you have to do is open up the app’s settings page and select your desired notification ringtone from the list of available options.

Step 1 – Log into the slack app

First, log into the slack app. Once logged in, scroll all the way down until you see your profile picture and a wrench icon that says My Settings. Next, scroll down a little more and you’ll see a place to edit your notifications. Scroll down once more and click on it. You will now be able to customize every single notification that you get from slack. The default setting is for you to receive sound notifications for each message. If this is too annoying for you, simply uncheck this box and adjust your other settings accordingly.

In order to turn off these annoying notifications completely, head over to Settings in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen and then select Sound. From there, scroll down until you find an option called Notifications, which will allow you to choose whether or not they should sound or pop up when they come through.

Step 2 – Click customize notifications

Now on the left sidebar, you will see different notification sounds, now you can choose whatever sound you want. Click on one of the notification sounds and that is what will play when a new message arrives in your workspace. The default sound for every workspace is a set of maracas. If you are not a fan of this particular sound, there are other options available. If you are lucky enough to have access to Spotify Premium, then your notifications will take the form of songs from your personal playlist. Otherwise, there are some unique sounds available as well including ambient sounds or even office noises such as ringing phones or fax machines!

Step 3 – Choose your new notification tone

  1. Select and click on the sound that you would like to use.
  2. The Select button will open up a dialog box with six options – each with an example audio clip that it produces when selected.
  3. Pick one of these sounds and click OK.
  4. Your newly selected notification sound should start playing for you in the window.
  5. If you don’t hear anything, make sure your speakers are turned on or try adjusting the volume. Once you have your new notification tone,
  6. save your settings by clicking Save Settings at the bottom of the page.
  7. Congrats! You’re all set!

Step 4 – Save your changes!

One more thing – click on Save Changes at the bottom of the screen and your new notification sound will take effect. Easy peasy! That’s it, you’re done changing Slack’s notification sound! You’ll be notified by this annoying noise when someone @ mentions you in a channel or sends you a private message in your inbox.
